Many have seen Planes, Trains, and Automobiles- A movie that still makes me laugh the egg nog out of my nose, and question the sanity of my family. The holidays are a time to eat home cooked meals, bring family and friends together, and most importantly, share a cocktail toasting the next 60 days of non-stop holiday music, movies, and store lines. The holiday season officially kicks off with the celebration of Thanksgiving, a time to give thanks, and an excuse to start putting up Christmas decorations.

The black humor to Thanksgiving for me, is that I get to spend the ENTIRE day with my family, in-laws, and closest friends; which can, at times, be intolerable (saying this with a grin).  I have a saying during the holidays, “Those who don’t drink, drink, and those that do drink, drink more”.

So, what is the solution to tolerating a day filled with family during the holidays? With confidence, walk into your family room with a handful of handcrafted Thanksgiving cocktails, ready to share with others for the duration of the day (responsibly). Trust me, you will be the hit of your Thanksgiving festivities.

Fun Fact: The Pilgrims drank fermented apple juice, what we call hard cider today, on Thanksgiving Day. Why break the tradition now?

A Few Tips to Surviving the Holidays:
1. Keep smiling while sipping on your cocktail - this shows you are engaged and enjoying everyone’s company
2. Conversations will start to flow more easily with the offer of a second cocktail
3. Offer low-proof cocktails for those that need to drive, or don’t want a full packed cocktail - Something is better than nothing
4. Explain to your family the Pilgrim’s tradition of serving cocktails - Who would break a long-standing family tradition?
5. Football plays all day! Show interest in every game and team. All the teams need your attention. This will allow you to sip, smile, and come in and out of conversations
