Finn maccool

This is one of the first really crafty drinks that I designed when I ran a bar. It’s a fun twist on an Old Fashioned. Four easy ingredients that all combine to deliver a velvety smooth and orange heavy experience. The name comes from an old Irish legend. Think Paul Bunyan but I wanted to showcase an Irish whiskey in a cocktail that was boozy and sweet all in one.

Here is what I did:

I combined all the ingredients into a mixing jar with ice in it. Stirred it super cold and then strained it into a low ball glass that had new, big, dense ice cubes. I garnished it with a big orange peel by expressing the oils over the cocktail and giving it a quick stir. Thus the Finn MacCool was born.

The Finn MacCool

2 oz. Tullamore DEW Irish Whiskey
.5 oz. Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur
.5 oz. Rich Simple Syrup (2:1 sugar:water)
3 healthy dashes of Orange Bitters (I like Reagans)
Combine ingredients in a mixing jar over ice and stir. Strain into a low ball glass with ice. Garnish with a squeezed orange peel and a quick stir.
