Republic National Distributing Company's Florida Mixologist, David Ortiz, was awarded Best Long Drink at the 2017 Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Iron Mixologist Competition.
The WSWA Iron Mixologist Competition took place on April 20th, 2017 in Grand Lakes Orlando, Florida where 7 top mixologists in the industry competed for several elite awards. Since this competition fell on 4/20, David felt inspired to create his winning concoction based off of the trending cannabis culture, The 4/20 Kush Fizz. According to David, incorporating hemp was a fun way of "intergrating the millennial movement", which happens to be the target audience for the beverage industry over the next 30 years. The judges were inspired by the presentation, inclusion of the mystery ingredient - guava, and the overall balance of the flavors, which landed David in the coveted spot of Best Long Drink.
